It is often in the detail of the finishing touches that the last part of the story telling in designing a unique space comes together. Part of my role in being a creative stylist can be to tie together treasures a client has already collected or to include or re-purpose family heirlooms. I always keep in mind the overall ambience that we have set out to achieve. Often this entails me sourcing or searching high and low for just the right item or conversation piece. Very often it is like I am on a mission and the buzz is in finding a treasure as well as then placing it in its new home. I think I may have been a detective in another life as I have always enjoyed this task!
Initially as I grew up from early childhood through my teenage years there was nothing specific that I dreamed of being or doing as far as a creative endeavour in a career or a business. The choices back then for girls were defined in only a few main roles: secretarial, nursing, teaching or hairdressing. Initially I trained in secretarial skills and whilst working at Bethesda Hospital in Claremont I felt inspired to become a nurse and so I changed my career. Quite some years later. it was when I returned to Bethesda Hospital as a nurse that my craft background and my early sense of entrepreneurship made a distinctive combination in me forming the brand…doffie.
